OLA Release Procedures
*NOTE: All balances must be paid before a release request can be made, including registration fees.*
RELEASES
The Pelham Raiders Minor Lacrosse Association has a commitment to the growth and development of the game of lacrosse. The Association has a ‘no release’ policy for players residing within the Pelham Raiders Minor Lacrosse Association boundaries. However, in special circumstances as determined by the PRMLA executive, a release may be granted as long as it abides with the OLA and PRMLA Constitution.
Please note:
- When a release is granted the caliber of the player shall not enter the decision (MR3.06).
- Release request cannot be submitted prior to March 1st of the current season (MR3.01)
- Release requests cannot be submitted after April 15th of the current season (MR3.01).
- The player requesting the release must be registered with the PRMLA prior to requesting the release and OLA approved for the current season prior to any participation (MR3.01).
A player will be eligible for one rep release per playing season, per sector (MR3.01).
Any player who has not registered with their resident association by the 3rd Sunday in March will be ineligible for a rep release. (MR2.08(a)).
HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR A RELEASE?
The Player must first be registered (including payment) with the Pelham Raiders Lacrosse Association. The Player or Parent/Guardian must complete section 1 of the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Release Request Form and deliver it to the PRMLA President, with a copy also being sent to the PRMLA Registrar.
NEXT STEPS:
Per OR10.2 of the Ontario Lacrosse Association 2025 Rules and Regulations:
1. PRMLA will respond to any release request within 3 business days to acknowledge receipt of the OLA Release Request Form (linked above) and notify the player/guardian of the date & time of the release hearing.
2. Release hearings must occur within 10 business days of the PRMLA receiving the request from the Applicant.
(If the release request hearing is not held within ten (10) business days, the applicant shall automatically have their release request granted and the PRMLA will be considered to have no grounds for an appeal.)
3. All related parties will be invited to attend the hearing.
4. The hearing will be heard by a minimum of 3 people, one of whom will act as the Chair.
5. Within 5 business days of the conclusion of the hearing, all parties shall receive a written decision which includes the following: i. Issue in question ii. Statement of the facts iii. Date of request iv. Date of acknowledgement v. Hearing date i. vi. Club affiliation(s) ii. Decision iii. Reasons for the decision iv. Appeal process information
(If the written decision is not received within 5 business days of the conclusion of the hearing, the applicant shall automatically have their request granted and the PRMLA will be considered to have no grounds for an appeal.)
If the release is denied by the PRMLA:
If the release is granted at any point:
- A refund will be given via e-transfer or cheque less the $100 Release Fee. The player must then re-register with the next closest club and deliver the signed two-page release form to the registrar of his/her new club as proof of release . The new club’s registrar will record a comment in the online registration system indicating that confirmation of the release was received so that the Zone 9 registrar is aware.
